Crunchy Chicken's challenge (march 16th 2009)

There will be mutiny and rebellion at Wit’s End this month. Blood will be spilled and it will probably be mine unless I can let go of the Taurean determination to complete this challenge.

Crunchy Chicken’s April challenge

There are six in our family and I have to feed us all with $1200 Austalian dollars for the entire month with only local, organic products. Edited to add here: I usually spend around $400 p/m AUD for our groceries so this part won’t be the challenge.

Here in Perth Western Australia we are truly blessed. Within the locavore criteria of 160km radius we have vineyards, market gardens, dairies, bakeries, Apiarists and the wheatbelt! All of my requirements for a typical Portuguese organic diet can be fulfilled here almost on my doorstep. The Husband on the other hand is going to have to adapt or starve.

The Perth region does not produce Soy sauce, weird sticky packets of preserved things or most importantly for him RICE. I don’t know of him going without rice for more than two days.

We do have about 50kg’s of rice in our stocks atm but if we are true to the challenge he isn’t going to be able to eat any of it for an entire month.

Who wants to place their bets now

++Can’t work out how to delete my previous comment, really should start proof reading before I hit submit.

Boy, I am so not betting on this one. I sure hope you don’t have a guilt button cause it’s going to get a workout over this one.

Kind Regards
Belinda

I wish you all the best with this one Perhaps you could have a trading scheme so he has to pay a fine for food that doesn’t fit the criteria, while still sticking to his portion of the budget.

I was wondering if you could grow it too - probably not in time though I’ve read lately that the whole ‘growing them in water’ thing is mainly just to kill off the weeds.
