Does it pay to install solar? March 21st 2009)

Yes!

We have just received our first electricity bill since installing a Solar Hot Water system and PVP’s. Our saving:

$63.25

Now you all know that we are a large family so our usage will always outstrip what our 1.1kw system can produce but lo and behold, on the back of the account was the following message

REA 1 Rewnewable Energy A1 Tariff

52 units @ 12.67 cents per unit = $6.59 credit!

The electricity company paid us!

News flash! The Husband just reminded me that the PVP’s weren’t connected to the grid for the first month so it will be double the above amount in the future

WTG L. In the new house we are having a solar hot water installed, with a wetback that will heat the water in the winter from the fire, hopefully that will save even more. Add the composting loo and we should save some water too!

Well done! bet this is even convincing DH that you’re headed in the right direction!

We found a huge difference when we converted to solar hot water, even in winter in Canberra. It’s definitely the way to go.

As for power, when we did the calcs, it was about the same for us to pay for 100% green power or to get solar panels. The advantage of 100% green power was that we didn’t have to have all that money up front. xx

This is so great to read . We are getting solar hot water in our new house and I am so happy to read that you have had a saving on your account . We are also planning on getting green energy but not sure which company to turn to. Being new to this I am just in the researching stages atm.

Heya Was just pondering whether the credit we got on our bill the other day was a ‘proper’ (or correct) amount… might have to chat figures with you when you get the chance
