The things you learn (11th April 2009)

Young children have boundless energy. A pregnant Forty Something does not.

Morning sickness lasts all day

Weeds are forgiving, if you don’t water them they still grow, and grow and grow and grow

Nothing kills couch grass

Budgets fly out of the window when even standing up to cook makes you puke in the sink; Dial a Dish becomes your best friend.

It is possible for a committed vegetarian to suddenly crave steak. Not just a small piece but the entire side of a cow slathered in pepper sauce

A dedicated gardener can totally neglect their garden when they have no energy to spare for anything else.

It sounds like your eldest needs to start learning to cook.

You need those chickens yesterday to start tractoring those weeds.. even if you don’t have the energy to plant out this winter at least the ground will be being well fertalised.

Could you save your budget by having someone else cook what’s in your pantry/fridge? Belinda got it right, with the chickens for the weeds, not only will they fertilise but they’ll scratch up the soil surface allowing water and air to penetrate, thus encouraging worm activity. Is your eldest old enough to start cooking? Mine could all cook a proper meal, meat&veg plus dessert by the time they were 12. A great help it was too as I was working full time, it meant we could all take turns in the kitchen instead of exhausted me coming home to cries of “what’s for dinner?”

I have a better solution - Order 3 boxes of Meat Lovers pizza, = no food prep, cravings satisfied and you can use the boxes to smother the couch grass.

Genius!

Take heart the MS can only last another 71/2 mths tops. LOL I remember our garden being totally neglected while pg with Q and the first couple of mths with constant BF and baby wearing so totally sympathize there.

Never had the meat craving though. Maybe you’re missing something in your diet -like food, don’t think dry toast has much protein or iron.

Think its time for the beloved husband to step up and do some cooking for the tots. I just can’t order take out more than once in a blue mood the miser in me over comes the MS for 10 min intervals/enough to get food prepared, then cooked and served. You need some failsafe, simple speedy recipes that #1 daughter or husband can do.

While constant nausea and vomiting are simply awful I am glad that your absence wasn’t caused by anything more serious and that you haven’t lost yer sense of humour. Vit B6 is meant to help although my own daughter had to go on meds for it…she was still vomiting in theatre when going in for her caesar
Hope yours passes quickly and that you don’t dehydrate in this hot weather. Chin up Old Bean!!!!

Hi Gorgeous One

Meat cravings may mean you need iron or some essential amino acids or B12. Get the steak if you need it.

Or you could try purple-red veges and fruits - they build the blood which is possibly what’s needed - try beetroot, purple grapes and berries.

Parsley is an excellent souce of iron if that is what is needed, as are apricots. If iron is a concern, you could try Floradix. Taken in grape juice, it’s a lovely way to boost your iron levels, if that is what is needed. Remember to have some source of vitamin C with your iron.

To check if it’s your iron levels, look under your lower eyelids and/or check your gums. If they are pale, you may be short on iron. Other signs include a bluish cornea; ridging, brittle or spoon-shaped nails; and a flat, sore, red tongue.

If its the amino acids you need, look to your protein combinations, eg, lentils and brown rice, corn and beans.

B12 pretty much needs to come from animal sources, so eggs (soft boiled) and milk-based products may be useful.

As for the morning sickness, remember the cheezels, jatz and ginger.

You could also try nettle soup and/or oats as a tonic. xx

This might help with #3 & #7 (maybe even with keeping down the couch grass): http://middlepath.com.au/plant/weeds.php

Grow the weeds on purpose!

Sanitarium So Good has non-animal B12 in it.

Hope you are feeling better today.

Give me a recipe you and the whole family like and I’ll cook it up and deliver it.

I remember well the days of not being able to stand in the kitchen long enough to cook for the family.

Big hugs,
Txxx
