In my usual frugal manner I have sourced a supply of free mulch. There is only one condition; you have to accept whatever they dump on your front lawn which in our case was the entire contents of the mulching truck! This smoking heap stood higher than me (yes, I will get to the Dwarf bit in a minute) and even with me diligently shovelling away for the week, I have hardly made a dent in the pile!
I am a bit worried in case I can't shift it all before the hot weather rolls around. Mulch piles can spontaneously combust can't they?
I also took possession of my box of berries (all fifteen of them!), strawberries, loganberries, silvanberries, youngberries, blueberries, elderberries and raspberries. This has been an interesting exercise as I have realised that I have probably run out of planting room in my beds/surrounds and it is going to have to be pots from now on! Ohhh, just had a thought; there is a wattle taking up space in the 'forest' :)
Yes, I'm getting to the dwaft bit now. I had my check up at the hospital on Wednesday and it appears that I have been shrinking. I have lost two cm's in a year :( Now when you are only 163 cm's tall, every cm counts! So my eco footprint isn't the only thing that is shrinking!
Hormonal hair growth, shrinking stature, shovel in hand and Graves disease (makes you very firey), just sew me a hat and call me Grumpy!

String Bean suggested you add some rocks and make it a rockery.
"Make sure you tell Lara....OK!"
LOL. I'd love a free pile of mulch. Do you know if that do that here in the ACT or is it just a WA thing?
ROFL! But I would need a mountaineers license to climb the damn thing to position rocks!
Re: sourcing free mulch, call your local tree butcher and ask them if they have any going spare :) It saves them paying tip fees!
Hi Lara, that's a mighty big pile of mulch!
Do tell, I must know if your worm experiment is working! We set up a worm farm a while ago and went straight for the 'real worms', so if yours worked I'm going to feel ripped off!
ROTFLMAO @ "sew me a hat and call me grumpy" !!
My berries order arrived a few days ago now, planted and sending out shoots already! They are loving this weather, there are some pics of them I uploaded today on the blog
Blessings:)
Free mulch, how fantastic....what I would do for that.....
It is a huge pile.......such hard work when it doesn't seem to get any smaller....I did the same thing last year with shredded bark....in fact at one point the mountain seemed to get bigger....
You would have to be the coolest Grumpy I know! hehe
Do mulch piles really spontaneously combust?? If so, then I guess its a bonfire party at your place!
BTW, for those in the Canberra region , this may be of interest: http://www.groundswellproject.blogspot.com/
Its a project where green waste in the city are being put back into agricultural land. Very cool.
Hiya Crone, do they know why you shrank, especially by so much? Is it to do with the Graves?
On a lighter note, what a great pile of mulch! I certainly will be trying to find a local tree butcher.
I'm starting to get the same problem with planting room, so am leaving the blueberries in pots. They need an acid environment, anyway, so I though that would save me the trouble of having to establish a different area just yet. Raspberries and strawberries could do OK inpots, as well, but the elderberries (so glad you have them), the silvan, logan and youngberries all need ground space. The brambles particularly need climbing space, so near a fence perhaps?
Happy planting. xx
Just leave it there to irritate certain people ;)
Are you sure we're not twins? Guess how tall I am (well last time I checked, anyway ...)?
At least with that pile of mulch you won't need to sacrifice any more straw bales :)
Advertise your mulch here

I had too much mulch in May, I had my post here up for only 1 day and an alomost entire truckload of mulch disappeared.
After 3 phone calls, I had the ad taken down and was just as well. I had some desperate dude (when there was about only one bags worth left out front) actually digging into the kerb to get it all, roflmao.
Wow, I hope it's not the Graves' that's making you shrink, I'm only 163cm too!!! Well... I was last time I checked :-o Runs off to measure herself...
Count your blessings - I registered with them months ago and heard nothing. They rarely get up to the hills.
Good for you!
LOL, that's a lot of mulch!
Hey, how did your coffee plants ever turn out? I've just planted seeds but have no idea if they will grow!
