Belinda's challenge week 5 (13th Nov 2008)

Can you believe that it's been a whole 'nother week?

For those of you who have thyroid related illnesses, you may be able to relate to how I have been this week. I have been playing medication roulette for a while now to try and find that balance between normality and weight stabilisation. Last week I must have left it far too long between doses and I have crashed energy wise this week. Going to bed exhausted and waking up tired (who else is singing that Hoodoo Guru's song in their head now? LOL!) I think that I shall just have to accept that I can no longer run around like a crazy woman without paying the price. :(

So what have I actually done this week for the challenge?

Sowing seed or Planting Planted up the seedlings of watermelon, bean, basil and eggplant given to me by Unknown Entity. T, you will be pleased to know that eggplant is growing at a rate of knots and has three new leaves.
Planning for The Future - meal planning, the next seasons garden plan, working out storage plans or more long term goals and projects like plans for digging root cellars I have been buying cream when I see it at a reduced price to make into butter and freeze either as a butter pat or in cookie dough. I make a lot of gift baskets for friends over the festive season so having the doughs in the freezer ready to bake saves me a lot of time. I have borrowed another bottling book from the library as I believe that although we all have access to the internet at the moment, it is foolish to have all my information about self sufficiency totally dependant on electronic media. To that end I will be building up a library of my own.
Working for the Future - storing food, managing stores, preserving, building that home made cob or solar oven, adding house insulation, saving for manual grain mills etc The tots are getting chooks for Xmas. End of discussion Husband. If you are reading this know that here I draw the line!
Building Community - volunteering, donations, joining an existing community group, forming your own community group, taking a cake to a friend having a hard time, calling someone you just let drift out of your life, etc A get together next week of like minded souls will be happening. They may not be my immediate neighbours (yet) but I believe that the pull east, (Goddess willing) will happen in the next few years :) I am still sewing my secret santa gift and have until the 5th of December to get it to it's recipient. I think an express overnight bag will be happening!
Over the past two days I have read my electricity metre according to Rhonda's challenge.

Thurs 6am: 15019

Friday 6am: 15033

This means that we used 14 units in a 24 hour period.

I am still looking for the water metre! I think that it is underneath Mount Mulchmore!

Yay for chooks for Christmas!!! Surely the husband can see the economic sense that growing your own eggs makes? At over $6 a dozen, free range organic eggs for a family of 6 (sometimes 7) will be costing way more than a chook pen and a few chooks. And the hours of entertainment they provide will also save on expensive outings to entertain the tots!

Plus you’ll save on buying fertiliser - you’ll have chicken poo galore! LOL

Hi Crone
Sorry to hear you’ve been suffering from the thyroid problem again. Fatigue is such a battle.
Go the chooks!! Great for the tots and the whole family. And good on you for the butter production.
Oh and guess what I bought today?? My new favourite gadget. xx
