I surrrender but I will not be powerless (Dec 9th 2008)

Molly phoned me yesterday. She pulled together a lot of the thoughts which had been rushing through my mind and made me realise a couple of things;

I needed to stop feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of what is happening in the World.

I can make a difference in my own little part of the planet.

By living authentically and without fear, likeminded people will gravitate towards me and our interactions will form a community.

She's a pretty wise young chook is our Molly and she is inspiring me to post this quote from St Francis of Assisi

"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible"

Thanks too CH, I think we all make a great team when we set our minds to the issues that tend to confront us all at times

Through work I’ve been working with some of Stephen Covey’s ideas (Habits of highly effective people). He talks about some ‘circles’. The central one is things within your control, the next one around it is your ’sphere of influence’ where you can’t directly control things but you can influence others to help you further your cause (like encourage others to grow gardens!) and finally the outer circle is the part you can’t control, which you kind of have to leave to get on by itself to the workings of the efforts you put into the first two.

His work can be found in various places on the net. Might be worth a look
