I've made all of the same mistakes as you and then some! I'd have to say though that forgetful neglect in Perth WA, huge water restrictions and summer's from hell do not make for a happy garden.
It's Autumn here now so time for me to dust myself down once again and get busy in the garden. This time though I'm going to get some help from an expert, short term cost for a long term gain I hope.
