Hello, Hello! is anybody out there? (May 24th 2009)

Just popping in from the morning sickness haze of the last few weeks to let you know that I am finally upright and breathing! Sure beats the alternative hey ;)

I've spent the last few nights watching a wonderful series called Tales from the Green Valley. A totally amazing show of how life was in the 1620's. You know what, it was a real eye opener for me in that I realised that my 'dream' of a totally self sufficient life is just that; a dream. While I can make my own bread and cheese, grow lots of fruit and vegetables, I just don't have the land to grow grains on the scale needed to support my family.

I also realised that I have spent the last few weeks debilitated by morning sickness (lost six kg's) and in a SS peasant family that would be devastating; there are jobs which need to be done and there is no let up because the survival of the family depended on those jobs being done.

This morning I was all inspired to bake. Using some of my master dough (artisan bread in five minutes) I made a batch of bagels. This is really the first time in weeks I have had the energy to bake and it feels good to be getting back to normality.

My garden is sadly ignored but on the whole has survived weeks of neglect. Here are some pics of the areas I am not totally embarressed by

and here is a snap of a snap of my current project :) I am going to Homebirth at the end of Spring.

Can those who signed up to get a gift from me please email me with your addresses please :)

Good to see you back and I’m glad you’re well enough to start baking again. I’ve had a busy cooking morning myself. My freezer is now filled with individual apple crumbles (6), sweet potato&pumpkin soup (2), spaghetti sauce (1), and shepherds pie base (1)(the meat part without the mashed potato topping). And a batch of brownies.

Good to see you are feeling better, and look at that cute baby! Is he/ she sending smoke signals? Maybe, “Sorry ’bout all that, mumma, hope you feel better for the next 26 weeks!”?!

Hurrah! Here’s to the end of ‘morning’ sickness (what a stupid name). It makes you wonder how the heck these pioneer women got on having 10-12 kids? Obviously the older ones can help out aroudn the home, but wow, I was so sick with #3 for the whole nine months that I retired my ovaries afterwards - how could a PW possibly bake bread/meals/tend the garden/chop wood etc???! Here’s to modern machinery as well.

Good to see you up and about woman, glad you are feeling a little more like your old self! Ramsey has sent the Victorian Tales to me, loved every second of it, did you want to watch and then do a “Pay-it-Forward” on our behalf? Let me know and I will post out if yes, if no I will do the post on my blog for the PIF.

How could I miss that post… congratulations on the pregnancy, they are going to enjoy you as a mum…. Enjoy the victorian farm, the prequel to it is Tales from the Green Valley, some of the same team and absolutely excellent.
